He does all of the building himself, and only uses specialist contractors who are hands-on too (where the ”boss” does the work). This results in a high standard of work done on time and budget. 1st February 2010 To Whom It May Concern I first became aware of the work of Aztec Constructions in 2005 when I saw a project published by Cullen Feng in ‘Houses’ Magazine. I was always on the lookout for good builders, and Michelle Feng had once been a student of mine so I rang her and received a positive recommendation of Angelo’s work. Angelo then successfully tendered for the McEwin Pace Residence and completed it within the required budget and on time in 2006. The project included some tricky connections of old and new building and some very detailed work required for the kitchen and bathrooms. Kirsty McEwin and Charles Pace were both incredibly impressed with Angelo’s work. We then engaged Angelo for the Hall Residence alterations + additions in 2006. This included the delicate insertion of a glass bathroom (including translucent glass walls and floor) into an existing terrace house, and the addition of a dramatic red staircase, along with a number of other significant improvements. Once again Angelo exceeded the expectations of the owners, Leanne + Stephen Hall. The most dramatic project Angelo completed for us was the Porter Apartment in 2007, a refurbishment of an existing Art Deco apartment in Potts Point. The main features of this project were the glass bathrooms. Once again Angelo and his team were outstanding in their approach and completion of the project. Most recently, in 2009, Angelo completed the Hynes Apartment, a major apartment renovation in Potts Point. Overcoming major damp problems and adjustments to the design during construction, once again Angelo and the Aztec Constructions team completed the project to a very high standard that exceeded the owner’s expectations. Personally, I have found Angelo to be one of the best builders I have had the pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and commitment to the integrity of each project has hugely impressed me. It is obvious that Angelo loves working on these kinds of projects, finding them challenging, stimulating and satisfying, and he keeps the cleanest and tidiest building sites that I have ever seen! Angelo has a very calm personality that deals very well with the uncertainties and fears of the owner. He is always fair and open in his negotiations and I would generally trust and respect his opinion in building related matters. Angelo has assembled a great team and network of sub-contractors that assist him to achieve the positive outcomes he has achieved. 15th February 2010 To: Aztec Constructions Pty Ltd I have worked with Angelo on two major renovation projects. Both clients were very happy with the results. One of these clients has subsequently used him again on another large project. He is an extremely competent builder who takes pride in his work. He is very organised and his attention to detail is excellent. He is intellectually capable of undertaking ciomplex projects and adopts a co-operative approach to dealing with consultants and clients. I had no reservations in recommending angelo for the project at 19 Mistral Ave which has a contract value of $1.9m. 24th February 2010 Angelo provided the equal lowest believable tender for our complete knockdown and rebuild in late 2008 for a 2009 start. Our architects had heard good things about him from their contacts at other firms, so they urged us to select him. It wasn’t long after Aztec started that our architects started to tell us that this guy was good. Rather than blithely ignoring their detailed drawings, which was what the architects were used to from their builders, Angelo would ring them up and ask for more details about their intentions. My builder cousin showed me how even (eventually hidden) aspects of the framing were all perfectly in line, and assured me that this was a sign of a high level of attention to detail. As the build continued, and we inevitably requested changes from the contract designs, Angelo took these in his stride, sometimes suggested modifications to our proposed variations that would save money, and several times passed on savings when a variation made the whole project cheaper, rather than charging for every change. When the completion date approached, Angelo conjured up a well-orchestrated army of subcontractors, cajoled and bullied them into a final frenzy of activity, and made sure that our house was their priority in the last fortnight before the Christmas holidays. He got us in to the house about a week before he had to, and after only 9 months for a new 185 m2 architect-designed house on a terrace block in the Inner West. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Aztec to a friend or a relative. Angelo’s work is of the highest standard, his skill set is broad so that his reliance on subcontractors is minimised, he keeps his subcontractors on a tight leash and his pricing is always realistic. My partner points out that he completely lacks the condescending attitude to women that made her bristle in every second encounter with men in the building industry.
